KAÏROS to Close the 44th Edition of Rendez-Vous Cinéma Québec

Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma, presented by Hydro-Québec in collaboration with Radio-Canada, is pleased to announce, in partnership with Filmoption International, that the film Kaïros, written and directed by Jennifer Alleyn, will close the 44th edition of the Festival. Produced by Les films de Jennie, the film starring Emmanuel Schwartz will have its world premiere on April 30 during the Festival’s closing night presented by Crave at the Cinéma du Musée, prior to its release in Quebec on May 15.

“It seemed natural to us to close the 2026 edition of Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma with a feature-length fiction film imbued with a spirit of humanity. Directed by Jennifer Alleyn, Kaïros fully echoes our opening film—also written and directed by a woman—and explores questions of identity. A beautiful way to close the Rendez-vous with an evening rich in emotion,” says Laura Rohard, director of the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma festival.

With this new feature film, artist and filmmaker Jennifer Alleyn (Cosmos, Impetus) presents a unique work rooted in the experience of defining moments. Drawing on the beauty of reality, she offers viewers a meditation on uprooting, the poetry of everyday life, and the power of human connections. In 1992, while directing more than twenty documentaries around the world for the program La Course destination monde, she turned her camera abroad and came to appreciate the depth of human generosity. This defining experience resonates with the quest at the heart of Kaïros: the quest to discover oneself through others.

“It is an honor for the film Kaïros to close the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma. This film is an ode to human solidarity that defies the loneliness of cities. For me, the Rendez-vous has always been a gathering that breaks through isolation with a grand celebration of cinema. I am thrilled at the idea of sharing the film in this context. The film’s team joins me in thanking RVQC for this wonderful invitation,” shares Jennifer Alleyn, director of the film Kaïros.

Ten Times Dix, a film by Jennifer Alleyn, will be presented at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art on December 12, 2025. The film was previously screened at the same museum in April 2014 as part of the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, in the presence of the filmmaker.

The film won the Tremplin pour le Monde Award at the Festival International du Film sur l’Art in 2011.

Synopsis

A volunteer soldier in 1914 and a witness to the rise of Nazism in 1933, German painter and printmaker Otto Dix denounced horror through his art. For him, art was a weapon. With piercing lucidity, this great master unsettled and shocked audiences alike. The man who once said, “I must have the courage to paint the ugly,” left behind a body of work that is as disturbing as it is deeply human, casting a gaze upon the surrounding chaos that still resonates with America today…

Ten Times Dix by Jennifer Alleyn invites viewers to revisit the interwar period, the brothels of Berlin during the Roaring Twenties, Friedrich Nietzsche, and humanity’s urgent need to reach the truth.

Book and DVD Launch - Impetus

Éditions Somme Toute invite you to launch the book IMPETUS by Jennifer Alleyn on October 22 at 5 pm at the Cinémathèque québécoise's Espace café!

Including the screenplay of the film, as well as unpublished scenes to be viewed on a smart phone, this book allows you to enter the heart of Impetus' creative movement and its challenge to update the "crazy dream" of direct cinema.

In the form of a logbook, filmmaker Jennifer Alleyn shares her thoughts, ideas held and abandoned during the manufacturing process. The book thus extends the experience of the film and updates the initial questioning of the project: where does the impulse come from? What drives us, makes us act?

The DVD of the film will also be available. There will be a special price on the DVD when you purchase the book.
