IMPETUS
Hybrid feature film (2018) “Playful like a Godard or Varda film. Brillant and moving.” - Denis Villeneuve

In the process of her ongoing film shoot in New York city, a filmmaker finds herself questioning the origin of movement. She is forced to revise her screenplay as the main actor leaves the production. An unexpected replacement appears, giving her a new impulse, a liberating impetus. IMPETUS combines documentary and autofiction, in an ode to the possibilities offered by the intervals between real and imaginary.

10 X DIX
Documentary (2011)

A volunteer soldier in 1914 and witness to the rise of Nazism in 1933, the German painter Otto Dix depicted the ravages and horrors of war. With unsparing lucidity, he portrayed scenes that are disturbing and shocking. Art was his weapon. The master who said, “I need courage to paint ugliness,” rendered the chaos around him in a manner both brutally honest and humane.

Selected for the Pessac International Film Festival (France), Ten times Dix won the ARTV World Tremplin Award at the 29th Montreal International Film Festival (FIFA). He was subsequently presented in regular programming for the public at Cinéma Beaubien and Cinéma Le Clap. Broadcasted on Arte France and Germany and then on Radio Canada.

An insider’s look on how art impacts life.

After inheriting her father's studio, Jennifer Alleyn found herself in this sacred space, still imbued with the presence and imagination of her father. Her film is an attempt to prolong the dialogue, to find the missing fragments of her father’s life. Edmund Alleyn was an intense and complex man of integrity who left his mark on Canadian art history.

Presented as a world premiere at the 26th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), My father's studio receives a standing ovation and wins the Best Canadian Achievement Award. It was released in May 2008, at the Cinéma Parallèle of Ex-CEntris (French version) and at the Nouveau Cinéma Du Parc. While starting his career on the Festivals circuit, he stopped in February 2009 at the Louvre Museum in Paris and at the Morgan Library in New York.

THE IMAGINARY LIFE OF JACQUES MONORY
Documentary (2005)

From his studio in Paris, the painter Jacques Monory presents the content of his next exhibition. In this very personal protrait, the 70 year old artist, in peace with his artistic legacy, recalls his lifelong obsessions: monochrome images, philosophy and guns.

The imaginary life of Jacques Monory is presented at the inauguration of the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Val-de-Marne, with the exhibition Jacques Monory (France) in November 2005. Then it was then presented at the Cinéma des Cinéastes in Paris (France). In Montreal, he was shown at the Ex-Centris Parallel Cinema for two weeks and received critical acclaim (November 13-23, 2006). The film was broadcasted on Télé-Québec in 2006, and then shown in Vancouver International Film Festival and Acadian Francophone Film Festival in 2006.

THE ROSSYS
Documentary (2002)

8d21c52a-42a3-47a8-aed5-81b3765d88c0.jpg

The Rossy is the name of a department store chain, but it’s also and mostly the name of the couple behind it. The family business, managed by Michael and Celia Rossy, becomes an iconic brand in Quebec from the 50’s to the 80’s. Generations shoped and worked at Rossy. This company’s history is therefore closely linked to Montreal’s and the Province of Quebec’s contemporary history. However, when mega competitors like Walmart appeared, the Rossy had to use creativity to avoid bankruptcy. This movie is about them, their work and their unwavering love.

Produced as part of the Serie Entrée côté court, The Rossys was broadcast on Télé-Québec and Radio-Canada. It later appeared at several festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Rencontres internationales du documentaire in Montreal and the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. Released in theatres before Robert Morin's feature Que Dieu bénisse l'Amérique.
